Week 4

Lecture: We learned about communication. There are four types of communication: Place Dependent synchronous (chat rooms), Place Dependent asynchronous (bulletin boards), Place Independent synchronous (MSN messenger) and Place Independent asynchronous (e-mail). ICT used are e-mails (Outlook Express, Pegasus Mail, i.Scribe), instant message (MSN messenger, ICQ, AOL, Trillian), discussion board (Bulletin Boards), Internet relay chat (Chat rooms), podcast (Pod lounge, SBS, ABC) and social networking (My Space, Face Book). All of these ICT uses have great benefits to people because every thing is available to everyone, if you have a task or interest it can be done by using one of the above. There is great choice now compared to five years ago.

Workshop: We learned how to set up an e-mail account, make folders for certain e-mails to be stored into, sending and receiving e-mails. We also went to Google site to look up a topic that we like, and visit two different podcast sites to see what they are all about.

After visiting Podcast sites I found it is an excellent way to listen to all sorts of information from the news to music to comedy etc. I found it to a good thing to get into for a lot of people, but didn't really interest me, for I have other ways to interest my self or get info from.

Week 3

Lecture: We learned about presentation strategies. The types of presentations: self contained (web page, cd-rom and video), written (essay and paper), stand and deliver (oral). I learned that structuring the presentation well, means that a person will learn more from the presentation. It has been proven that a presentation of text, pictures or diagrams and speech is the ultimate way to present something, than just using one of the above. To have a good presentation you must have an Intro, Body and a Conclusion. We then were taught about the content of the intro, body and conclusion, as well as audience involvement (eye contact, knowing your audience, clear speech etc).

Workshop: We learned about using PowerPoint. How to enter data, text and pictures into a slide presentation. We had to select a topic and then make up a 6 slide presentation.
